Josephine's journey ~ day 23

Saturday September 6, 1930

Josephine’s Party R itinerary for September 6, their first full day back in Paris, included a free morning for resting and/or shopping. Lunch would be eaten at the Hotel Ambassador. Then in the afternoon the group would visit the Louvre followed by dinner at the Hotel Ambassador.

On the afternoon visit to the Louvre, Josephine may have found the cobblestone floor hard to walk on. Or that might have been a minor distraction as she observed the many priceless masterpieces at the Louvre. (1)

Was she in awe of the “Winged Victory” depicting the goddess of Victory as if soaring to new heights?

And what did she think of the “Venus de Milo,” the sculpture of the goddess of love?

What did she think of the “Mona Lisa,” considered by some to be the most famous painting in the world?

Having visited Napoleon’s tomb a week ago, did she enjoy seeing the painting, “Consecration of the Emperor Napoleon I and Coronation of the Empress Josephine”? Was she able to recognize the celebrities in the painting, including Pope Pius VII and the painter himself, Jacques-Louis David? Was she amazed at the size of this painting?

Did she enjoy seeing the jewels of Josephine and Napoleon?

Did Josephine feel, as others did, that two hours was just not enough time to see all that she wanted to see, especially because of the many people who crowded the Louvre?

Josephine's Journey hopes that Josephine, in spite of the long days and nights, remained in good health and was able to take advantage of all that Paris had to offer, and that she continued to “enjoy every bit of the way so far” as she had written on August 21 while on the SS George Washington.
